Open Doors

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
– James 1.27 (NIV-UK)

Dear Christian Friends

For Turkish Christian Semsa Aydin, the shock of the cruel murder of her husband Necati, a Muslim-background believer, last April still hits her every morning when she wakes up.

“Necati’s absence is a cross for me every day,” Semsa said this week.

Equally painful, she says, is knowing that her two children will grow up without their father’s loving care and nurture.

Ten years ago, Necati’s strict Muslim family violently opposed his decision to become a Christian.

“I was afraid for his life, and that he would renounce Jesus,” Semsa said. “So I told the Lord I would give him up, that I would sacrifice our marriage. I prayed that the Lord would just keep Necati for Himself, not for me.”

Semsa has publicly forgiven her husband’s killers, but grief and the realities of single motherhood still overwhelm her.

Please pray with us that:

• Semsa and her children will be comforted and sustained by the Presence of the Lord

• They will soon feel at home in their new flat, far from their old home, but near a Protestant church

• Their former church, which has been attacked, will be protected and that the believers there – especially those who came to faith in Christ through Necati’s martyrdom – will be upheld by the Holy Spirit’s power

• The five young fanatics who murdered Necati (and two other Christians) will be turned from darkness to serve the living God.

Thank you for praying with us.

Every blessing
